This exhibition has been curated by SCIP to explore and celebrate heritage and contemporary art and crafts.

Made By Hand is an exhibition of heritage and contemporary arts and crafts, curated by art charity SCIP for the 2024 Artwave Festival. Featuring a stunning collection of new artworks ranging from calligraphy to ceramics, printmaking to woodturning this exhibition is set to be one of the highlights of this year’s festival.

Heritage crafts and arts are defined as being practices which involve manual dexterity to produce, which use traditional materials and design techniques, and which have been passed on through generations. At Made By Hand visitors will also see how traditional skills have shaped contemporary practise, and we are delighted to be showcasing two graduates from Brighton University’s Craft & Design BA who represent the extraordinary new talent emerging into this market.

Exhibitors include Jo Smith | Silversmith, Ellie Bond | Glass Art, Sue Haughton | Painting, Sally Mae Joseph | Ceramics, Rebecca Walklett | Metalsmith, Susie Leiper | Calligrapher, Tiki Brighton | Contemporary Jewellery, Sue Hufton | Calligrapher & Weaver, Fiona Richardson | Printmaker, Ruby Davies Knott | Ceramics | Brighton University Graduate, Irina Lespa | Woodworking | Brighton University Graduate

Alongside the exhibition will be opportunities for the community to try some heritage skills, with a community weave and clay plate making on offer for all ages and free of charge.
